The carhartt sandstone rancher coat is built to withstand the hard work of ranching and other rugged professions. Constructed of 12-ounce, 100 percent cotton sandstone duck with carhartt-strong triple-stitched main seams, it’s cut a little longer to ranch coat standards and nylon-quilt lined with midweight insulation for warmth. The full-length center front zipper features inner and outer storm flaps and a snap closure to seal out the wind with. Up front, there are two chest pockets as well as two large lower-front pockets that combine top-entry utility and side-entry hand-warmer comfort. The left-chest pocket not only holds a cell phone or media player, but also features a media port to let you string a headphone wire. For added secure storage, the coat also features two interior pockets. To enable riding, the coat is split at the side seams with snap closures. A drawstring waist and inner-sleeve rib-knit storm cuffs also work to seal out the wind and cold.

Five stars all throughout here. The jacket is very high quality. The fabric is still stiff but its at least sandstone so you get that worn in look and feel. The iphone pocket is great and my headphones slipped right on through. You cannot see the wrist cuffs from the outside of the jacket. The jacket goes down to about crotch level. The bottom sides unbutton to allow you to sit in heavy machinery or ride the hosses.

Size:
I wear a 4xl in almost every jacket on the market. This jacket is oversized to fit over layered clothing. You could order one size below and it would be a jacket that you can wear with maybe one shirt underneath with no problems. If you order to size expect it to be big when you are just wearing a polo. The jacket is made to wear over work clothes and loose for using your arms.

Color:
Black is more like a light black with white on some of the edges. Thats the nature of the sandstone garment. The picture on this jacket is of the Worn Brown which I really just call Tan. Frontier brown is the darker of the browns.

Insulation:
This jacket is gonna be good for temps below 60 degrees but I would not expect to work all day in sub-zero weather. In true rancher fashion, you are layered so that is what it is made for. In the field I would be wearing this jacket, a fleece, and a nice flannel shirt. Couldn't be warmer. That being said of course, you need to keep in mind the jacket is the primary protection piece so you would remove or add your clothes underneath as conditions see fit.

Waterproof:
More like water resistant. This will shed light rain and etc.... However, in an all out rain storm this jacket will get soaked to the bone.

Windproof:
Decent enough. It does not let very much wind it at all, even through years of using this jacket. On really frosty days when the wind is whipping, you are not gonna feel it under this jacket.

Break-in:
This jacket is still pretty stiff when its brand new. Only weathering and wearing is gonna break it in really good. My way of breaking in this jacket is to just put it on in the shower. Then wear it all day until it dries. Much like a good pair of boots.
