LeSportsac Women's Ryan 7532S Baby Bag,Black,One Size Review
I had considered getting this diaper bag several months ago. I wound up going with a different one, which was good for a while, but I still got this one some time later. I got to the point that while I had to admit I still wind up carrying around a lot of stuff for my toddler, I wanted a bag that was lighter-weight to start with and more flexible.
We also live in a semi-urban area and do a lot of walking with the stroller, so having a bag with stroller clips is an absolute requirement. Unfortunately, the stroller clips' design is the main source of my complaints about this bag.
Pros:
- I have the "Inca" pattern (brown multi-dots) - Good gender-neutral but not too babyish pattern without being solid black
- Bag is flexible, so you can pack it different ways
- It's lightweight before you load it up
- Shaped more square than a lot of other larger diaper bags, so it's less awkward to carry with the shoulder strap when also balancing a toddler on your other hip
- Fairly large capacity overall
- Although I don't use the changing pad, it's nicely padded and fairly large, if that's important to you.
- The outside pocket is (barely) big enough to accommodate my SkipHop diaper changing wallet
- Larger outside zip pocket with a gusset for the stuff you need to get at quickly (pacifier, snack, hand wipes, etc.)
- Larger open side pockets are good for a water bottle, sippy cup, stroller lock, etc.
Cons:
- The stroller clips on this bag are clearly a poorly-designed afterthought. They took a chunk of a shoulder strap and sewed them on, calling them a stroller clip! They are very wide and attached on the inside of the bag. I far prefer stroller clips that are more streamlined and attach on the outside of the bag. These inside-attached ones are hard to get at inside the bag, and take up a ton of unnecessary space in the bag.
- The stroller clip straps are also too short to really be useful for many strollers (like mine, where it needs to hang below the seat recline) if attached to the bag strap loop as they're supposed to. I wind up having to leave the strap unclipped and hang the clip part on the hook on my stroller. They are also not easy to quickly adjust on the fly. It's annoying, but it works well enough for my purposes.
- The loop where you attach the shoulder strap is also where you're supposed to attach the stroller clips. But... both clips don't fit in the hole at the same time! So if you actually want to hang the stroller clips over a single-bar-style handle on a stroller, you're supposed to unclip the shoulder strap, clip on the stroller clip, stash the shoulder strap - and then repeat the whole process when you want to take the bag off the stroller? All while dealing with your child? Give me a break! You should be able to quickly attach and detach the stroller clips, or have a clip design where the clip stays on the stroller and you can easily unclip the bag from the stroller clips. This bag has nothing of the sort.
- Due to the inside attachment of the stroller clips, the entire sides of the top of the bag are effectively open to the elements. I don't like that about this bag or some others I had been considering, and can't understand why diaper bag designers don't get that this is poor design. If you walk around at all with the bag - or even have to park further from the store entrance on a lousy weather day! - it is really lousy to have the bag's contents open to the elements! If they're trying to make the shape of the top more flexible, granted this is a good goal, but it could be achieved with some gusseting of the top part of the bag without having the sides of the top of the bag open.
- While I understand they probably did it for weight reasons, metal clips to attach the strap and loop would be more durable.
- The number of pockets on the inside lining is skimpy (as in, two on the inside). This works fine for me, but may not work for you.
- The side pockets are not insulated - this is not a major thing for me, but it may be for others.
Overall, this bag works for me because it's lightweight, flexible, more easily balanced with the stroller strap, and more attractive. But be aware in particular of the poor design of the stroller clips on this bag.
