An inner padded terrycloth layer lines the concealed carry compartments to provide a protective surface against your chest. You won’t even know you have your work tools stowed so close to your body. What an excellent product! 5.11, known for their product excellence, continues that tradition with this deep conceal product. This shirt has excellent fabrication (ie built to last), is comfortable, and effective at its purpose. I use this to deep conceal a Beretta Nano 9mm and SW Bodyguard .380 (not at the same time, although possible), and this shirt works great. With either weapon, I can wear just a t-shirt over this v-neck and the gun is completely concealed! A couple of quick notes:

1. Sizing: This fits very similar to underarmour and other compression wear, so if anything, be liberal and get a size-up; especially when you add the weapon, an over-tight shirt would only become uncomfortable. As for weapon sizes, I tried my sig 229 and that really seemed to exceed the concealment value of the shirt, with a noticeable bulge under anything but a sweatshirt. Also, the larger weapon frame was consistently clipping my elbow during movement, so I would suggest sticking to the sub-compacts for use in this shirt, but your preference may vary.

2: Purpose: This is a deep conceal product, meaning that you will have high weapon retention (due to both its location under the arm, and the sleeve-holster mechanism) but reduced access. This is an excellent carry style for a "disarmed/captured" backup weapon (LEO, etc.), as well as public conceal carry where concealment is the highest priority. Based on the retention sleeve and the shirt's location under another shirt, bp vest, etc., this is not a holster designed for a "quick to draw" or "last-ditch" weapon system for active assault or ground combat. It is an excellent alternative to carrying some other type of holster, but it does not necessarily replace an IWB or pocket holster's speed and ease of access.

3. Best applications: A: Concealment is the highest priority B: Weapon retention is a high priority C: Other holster styles do not work well with your clothing choice D: You desire the benefit of a firearm readily at your disposal and unnoticed, but only anticipate using it with some margin of "prep time." IE bank robbery, workplace/school violence or active shooter, protection of others, etc. This is probably NOT the best option if you foresee someone "jumping you", drawing a gun and pointing it at your head, etc. because unholstering your weapon will likely be too late for these scenarios; check out other holster alternatives.

Overall, this is a great product of the highest quality. It is comfortable and true to its purpose.
